Our Story
Alethium was born from a shared frustration with the wellness industry’s widespread quality issues. In 2022, our co-founders, Chris and Sam, had already spent years working within the CBD supply chain. While CBD was gaining traction as a wellness ingredient, the market was rife with inconsistent quality, and unreliable products were the norm. As Chris dug deeper into the problem, he saw a pattern that extended far beyond the complexities of the cannabis plant’s legal status. The entire industry seemed too willing to accept subpar standards.
Around the same time, a chance event crystallised the problem for Sam. A routine blood test revealed he was deficient in vitamin D, despite having taken supplements from a reputable retailer for over two years. If even mainstream, trusted brands couldn’t guarantee the quality of their products, it was clear that something fundamental was broken in the wider wellness supply chain. This realisation sparked a deeper investigation into the state of the industry, uncovering a truth that became Alethium’s founding insight: poor product quality wasn’t just limited to niche ingredients like CBD—it was pervasive throughout the entire supplement market.
As they explored the issue, Chris and Sam noticed growing awareness among consumers, especially in communities like professional sports where supplement safety was critical. Influential voices like Andrew Huberman, Peter Attia, and Andy Galpin were already calling attention to the problem. But the industry’s response wasn’t sufficient; existing solutions tended to be either prohibitively expensive or dependent on consumer testing, which only addressed quality at the end of the supply chain. Chris and Sam knew that for real change to occur, trust and transparency needed to be built from the ground up—right at the source.
Drawing on their combined experience in supply chain management and B2B sales, they envisioned a platform that would not only make it easy for businesses to demonstrate product quality but also shift the entire industry’s focus toward trust and safety. Alethium was created to be more than just a marketplace; it was designed to be a movement toward higher standards. By making third-party lab testing accessible and providing a platform where buyers and sellers could transact securely, we aim to elevate quality across the board.
Our approach rests on five key pillars: Transparency, Trust, Discovery, Simplicity, and Humanity. We believe these principles are essential to reshaping the wellness industry into a place where businesses can thrive by prioritising integrity, and consumers can feel confident in the products they choose.
Today, Alethium is the world’s first B2B marketplace for dietary supplements, offering lab testing services and a platform for trusted transactions. We're here to help the companies of tomorrow establish their credentials today and to drive the transformation that the wellness industry so desperately needs. If you share our vision of a healthier, happier world, we invite you to join us on this journey.
